Many people entering into business have a particular vision and a sense of determination to do everything on their own. They think they always know best. They understand the importance of networking, but they don’t know how to develop relationships that are about personal growth. Showing vulnerability or admitting failure is hard for everyone, but especially for someone caught up in the competition of the business world.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is how essential it is to reach out
My success came from putting in hard work, but there’s no question that I wouldn’t be where I am today if I had tried to go at it alone. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is how essential it is to reach out. Find a person in your life that you think is amazing and let them be a mentor. They could be someone you don’t even know. You’ve got to be willing to put yourself out there, introduce yourself, and ask them for advice.
I’ve reached out several times in my life
Those experiences have been extremely powerful for me. I was fortunate to have a father who was also an incredible mentor, and he helped me to become the man I am today by challenging me and teaching me everything he knew. He showed me that receiving guidance is a blessing. I reached out to people in my life that I thought were incredible, people I wanted to emulate, and by seeking out my mentors I shaped my path to success.
It can be intimidating to ask someone you admire and look up to for advice and help. You need to have humility and an ability to admit your faults. Opening yourself up and letting in amazing people is the greatest experience you’ll have in life. Don’t be afraid to reach as high as you can, you can never be successful without pushing yourself in the right direction. You’ve got to be the one to put a shark on your team, in your tank!
